November 2019 Highlights on Broadway and Beyond
Check out our guide to the biggest theatrical events of the month...
November is upon us and that means that Thanksgiving is on its way, folks! And Broadway fans have "Plenty to Be Thankful For" this month... Not only will two high profile shows from London (the hit bio-musical Tina and the epic two-parter The Inheritance) celebrate their official openings on the Great White Way this November, but we will also welcome the eagerly anticipated Broadway premiere of Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill and a star-studded stage adaptation of A Christmas Carol. And if that's not enough to start you off gushing with gratitude, we'll also welcome everyone's favorite Glinda, Kristin Chenoweth back to the New York stage!
But before we get to all that, as always, here are a few reminders of upcoming closing dates and last chances to see your favorite stars on stage...
November 3 - Three-time Tony Award nominee, four-time Golden Globe nominee and Emmy Award winner Jeff Daniels plays his final perfomance as Atticus Finch in Aaron Sorkin's record-breaking stage adaptation of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird at the Shubert Theatre.
November 10 - Second Stage Theater's Broadway premiere of Tracy Letts' Linda Vista ends its limited run at the Hayes Theater, whilst Broadway favorite Jenn Colella plays her final performance in her Tony-nominated roles of Beverley Bass and Annette in the beloved hit musical Come From Away at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre.
November 24 - It's your last chance to catch British stage legends Jonathan Pryce and Eileen Atkins on stage, as Manhattan Theatre Club's Broadway premiere of The Height of the Storm closes at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, and Waitress will say a fond farewell to two of its stars as Grammy Award nominee Jordin Sparks and "The Today Show" anchor Al Roker come to the end of their respective shifts at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
So, without any further ado, let's get to our November highlights...
"You Oughta Know" that on November 3 the Broadway premiere of Jagged Little Pill will begin performances at the Broadhurst Theatre! Inspired by the songs of Alanis Morissette's 1995 "Iconic" album, this new musical boasts an original story that centers on a suburban family by the name of The Healys. Although from the outside the family lives a seemingly picture-perfect life, under the surface, raw pain and emotion threatens to boil over and tear them apart, as the struggles of racial identity, queer identity, addiction, and sexual assault become too much to bear. And with the addition of those classic Morissette hits from "Hand in My Pocket" to "You Learn," we're sure Broadway fans will be falling "Head Over Feet" for this one!
Jagged Little Pill Tickets are available now for performances from November 3, 2019 through July 5, 2020.
On November 5, the smash hit production of To Kill a Mockingbird welcomes a new cast to the Shubert Theatre as it enters its second year on the Great White Way... and it's showing no signs of slowing down! Assuming the iconic role of Atticus Finch and leading the new cast will be acclaimed star of stage and screen Ed Harris. With four Academy Award nominations, alongside three Emmy Award- and one Tony Award nomination - already to his résumé, Jeff Daniels is leaving the role in more than capable hands and it certainly will be interesting to see a new take on the beloved literary figure.
To Kill a Mockingbird Tickets are available now for performances through September 6, 2020.
Feeling festive yet? You will be after November 7, because Charles Dickens' classic tale of redemption is hitting the Broadway stage in a new adaptation by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child scribe Jack Thorne. A Christmas Carol has already enjoyed success across the pond at London's Old Vic Theatre the past couple of years and now its time for New York audiences to get in on the Christmas spirit and experience renditions of some of the most cherished carols ever sang, including “Silent Night,” and “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear.” The Broadway cast is led by "House of Cards" star Campbell Scott as Ebenezer Scrooge, with formidable support from two-time Tony Award winner Andrea Martin as the Ghost of Christmas Past and Tony Award winner LaChanze, doubling up as the Ghost of Christmas Present and Mrs. Fezziwig. An official opening at the Lyceum Theatre is set for November 20.

Also on November 7, the Broadway premiere of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical will celebrate its official opening at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
