Buena Vista Social Club Information
Be among the first audiences to see Buena Vista Social Club at Atlantic Theater Company, the Off-Broadway powerhouse that originated Tony Award-winning hits including Spring Awakening, Kimberly Akimbo, The Band’s Visit, and more. Get Buena Vista Social Club tickets on New York Theatre Guide soon.
Inspired by the Grammy-winning 1997 album of the same name, the Buena Vista Social Club musical tells the story of the legendary artists who recorded the soul-stirring, foot-tapping music of Cuba’s golden age. Their groundbreaking namesake album Buena Vista Social Club inspired an Academy Award-nominated documentary that dove into the history of this ensemble, which recruited many Cuban artists who had been retired for years to authentically recapture Latin American musical genres such as son, bolero, and danzón.
Now, the story of the band comes to vivacious life in a passionate new production directed by Tony Award nominee Saheem Ali (Fat Ham). He collaborates with an illustrious team that includes Marco Ramirez (who won a Drama Desk Award for The Royale) and choreographers Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck (who won a Tony Award for Carousel and choreographed Steven Spielberg's West Side Story). An Atlantic Theater Company favorite, David Yazbek (the Tony Award-winning composer of The Band’s Visit) also joins Buena Vista Social Club off Broadway as music producer.
