Eric Anderson to play Harold Zidler in 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' on Broadway

Anderson assumes the role from Danny Burstein beginning January 18.

It's your own beloved Harold Zidler, in the flesh! Drama Desk Award nominee Eric Anderson will step into the role of nightclub owner Harold Zidler in Moulin Rouge! The Musical beginning January 18. He follows original cast member Danny Burstein, who recieved a Tony Award, an Outer Critics Circle Awards honor, and the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance for his portrayal of Zidler. Burstein plays his final performance January 16.

Anderson made his Broadway debut as Stewpot in the 2009 South Pacific revival. He has originated the role of Cal in Waitress on Broadway and also appeared in the original casts of Kinky Boots, The Last Ship, and Rocky. His performance as Shlomo Carlebach in the 2013 Broadway musical Soul Doctor earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination. Anderson has also appeared on screen as Mr. O'Malley in The Greatest Showman and in the TV shows Elementary, The Good Wife, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical has played the Al Hirschfeld Theatre since 2019, and the show won 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical. Based on the 2000 Baz Luhrmann movie musical, the show takes place at the titular nightclub in Paris at the turn of the 20th century. A bohemian writer, Christian, visits the club for inspiration and finds a muse in the Moulin Rouge's leading showgirl, Satine. The love story is set to dozens of contemporary pop songs, including the most famous tunes from the original film.
