Aaron Tveit to return to 'Moulin Rouge! The Musical' on Broadway
Two new cast members have also been announced.
Welcome (back) to the Moulin Rouge! Aaron Tveit, who originated the lead role of Christian in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, will return to the Broadway production for 12 weeks only, beginning January 17. He temporarily replaces Derek Klena, who will return to the production on April 11.
Tveit won the 2020 Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance in Moulin Rouge!. He is also known for starring on Broadway in Next to Normal, Catch Me If You Can, and Wicked, and on TV in Grease Live!, Schmigadoon!, Gossip Girl, and BrainDead.
Two weeks after Tveit rejoins the Moulin Rouge! The Musical cast, two new cast members will also step in. On February 7, David Harris and André Ward will take over the roles of The Duke of Monroth and Toulouse-Lautrec, respectively.
Tony nominee Sahr Ngaujah will play his final performance as Toulouse-Lautrec on February 5, and Declan Bennett will depart the role of the Duke on January 15, with Dylan Paul taking over from January 17 to February 5.
Based on Baz Luhrmann's award-winning film and featuring dozens of pop music hits, Moulin Rouge! The Musical follows the writer Christian as he falls into a star-crossed romance with the title nightclub's star showgirl, Satine. The show won 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
