The 2026 Emmy Award nominations have been released, and many of the nominated screen stars have also been seen on Broadway in recent months. The winners will be announced Monday, September 14 in an 8 p.m. E.T. ceremony hosted by Mariska Hargitay, who just wrapped her Broadway-debut run in Every Brilliant Thing on July 5.
Multiple actors from the HBO medical drama The Pitt, which received a leading 25 Emmy nominations, hit the stage in the 2025-26 season. Two, Patrick Ball and Sepideh Moafi, are Emmy-nominated; they starred in Becky Shaw on Broadway and New Born off Broadway this spring, respectively.
Additional 2026 Emmy nominees on and off Broadway within the last year include:
- Hacks's Meg Stalter (currently in Oh, Mary!), 2026 Tony Award winner Laurie Metcalf (currently in Death of a Salesman), and Jean Smart (Call Me Izzy)
- The Bear's Ayo Edebiri (currently in Proof)
- The Gilded Age's Carrie Coon (2026 Tony nominee for Bug)
- Shrinking's Michael Urie (Richard II)
- Widow’s Bay's Hamish Linklater (The Disappear)
- Pluribus's Jeff Hiller (Celebrity Autobiography)
Nominees announced to star in upcoming Broadway and Off-Broadway shows include The Diplomat's Allison Janney (Other Desert Cities) and Bradley Whitford (A Few Good Men) and Widow's Bay's Matthew Rhys (Playing Burton).
Other nominees who have performed on Broadway in recent years include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Steve Carell, Elle Fanning, Betty Gilpin, Oscar Isaac, Sarah Pidgeon, Sarah Snook, and Shailene Woodley, while Colman Domingo co-wrote the 2025 Off-Broadway musical Lights Out: Nat "King" Cole.
Additionally, the 78th annual Tony Awards ceremony, held in 2025 and hosted by Cynthia Erivo at Radio City Music Hall, is nominated for Outstanding Variety Special (Live).
The TV special Wicked: One Wonderful Night, promoting the cinematic release of Wicked: For Good and featuring performances of songs from the Broadway musical, received six nominations.
The final season of Netflix's Stranger Things, which ties in with the Broadway show Stranger Things: The First Shadow, received seven nominations. Reality and variety specials whose participants often appear in theatre — like Dancing With the Stars, Saturday Night Live, and RuPaul's Drag Race — are also represented among the Emmy nominees.
