Oh, Bowen! Comedian, actor, and podcaster Bowen Yang will make his Broadway debut in Oh, Mary! this fall, succeeding Meg Stalter as Mary Todd Lincoln from September 15 to December 6 at the Lyceum Theatre.
Yang is known for his seven seasons as a Saturday Night Live cast member, from 2019-2025, during which he was nominated for five Emmy Awards. He also co-hosts the podcast Las Culturistas with Matt Rogers and earned a 2026 Tony Award nomination for co-producing the Broadway musical Titanique.
In Cole Escola's Oh, Mary!, Yang will play a zany, alcoholic, repressed version of Mary Todd Lincoln, who aspires to cabaret stardom.
“My friendship with Cole has brought me many places over the years: late-night pizzerias, cross-borough social-distance walks, a tough production of Les Misérables sung in Dutch,” said Yang in a statement. “But being part of their deranged and profound masterpiece, Oh, Mary! is my favorite one by far. I will spend the rest of my life thanking them for the best Broadway debut a cis gay guy with limited singing ability could ask for.”
As previously announced, Stalter will depart September 12. Yang joins her and an esteemed line of celebrities who have played the role on Broadway, including Tony Award winner Escola, Betty Gilpin, Tituss Burgess, Jinkx Monsoon, Jane Krakowski, Hannah Solow, John Cameron Mitchell, and Maya Rudolph.
Yang will star opposite current cast members Phillip James Brannon as Mary’s Husband and Barrett Foa as Mary's Teacher, and original cast members Bianca Leigh as Mary’s Chaperone and Tony Macht as Mary’s Husband’s Assistant.
