Today the nominations for the Olivier Awards 2020, the biggest night of London's theatrical calendar, were announced across the pond by Broadway favorite, Tony & Olivier Award winner Gavin Creel (who is currently starring in the West End premiere of Waitress) and SIX star Alexia McIntosh. The New York Theatre Guide would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of this year's nominees in the 'other' theatre capital of the world.

Nominees of note for Broadway fans include Sara Bareilles (currently making her West End debut as Jenna opposite Gavin Creel in Waitress), who was nominated in the category of 'Best Original Score or New Orchestrations.' Waitress, which recently concluded its Broadway run of almost four years at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, was also nominated in the prestigious category of 'Best New Musical.' Also nominated in that category is Amélie (which played Broadway in 2017 and was recently presented in a reworked version in London), Max Martin's pop-jukebox-musical & Juliet (which earned the most nominations this year with a total of 9 nods), and the West End premiere of the 2017 Tony Award-winning 'Best Musical' Dear Evan Hansen (which earned seven nominations in total, including 'Best Original Score or New Orchestrations' for Broadway favorites Benj Pasek, Justin Paul and Alex Lacamoire).

Congratulations also go to two-time Olivier Award winner Sharon D. Clarke, who is set to make her Broadway debut this spring when she reprises her 2019 Olivier Award-winning performance in Caroline, or Change at Studio 54. She is nominated in the category of 'Best Actress' for her formidable turn in Death of a Salesman, which is this year's most-nominated play alongside Rosmersholm with five nods each. Clarke's co-star, Tony Award winner and "Suits" standout Wendell Pierce also received a nod for 'Best Actor' for his West End debut.

Broadway favorite and four-time Tony Award nominee Judy Kuhn earned a nomination for 'Best Actress in a Musical' for her performance in Trevor Nunn's revival of Fiddler on the Roof (which earned a grand total of 8 nominations, including 'Best Musical Revival' in a highly-contested category opposite Mary Poppins, Evita, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat).

And finally, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning star and creator of "Fleabag," earned nods in the categories of 'Best Actress' and 'Best Entertainment or Comedy Play' for the popular hit's one-woman-stage-version, which enjoyed a sold-out run in the West End last August and September.
