Video: Isa Briones on starring as Connie Francis in 'Just in Time'
For the breakout star of HBO's The Pitt, the iconic singer's sudden and sometimes overwhelming rise to fame isn't entirely unlike her own.
Summary
- This article contains an embedded video interview with The Pitt star Isa Briones on playing Connie Francis in Just in Time on Broadway
- Briones performs through May 29
- Just in Time centers on the life and music of classic crooner Bobby Darin
Isa Briones first became an NYC theatre darling for her Broadway debut in Hadestown and Off-Broadway run in All Nighter. But in between those gigs and her current return to Broadway in Just in Time, she's skyrocketed to widespread fame with her role as Dr. Trinity Santos on HBO's The Pitt. That sudden lurch is something her Just in Time character, iconic singer Connie Francis, was familiar with, too.
"You're seeing this young woman dealing with fame for the first time and [...] having to go through what she's going through personally that might be really sad or hard, and then go out and perform and put on a happy face," Briones said.
"That's a really tragic and beautiful thing we all can connect to. I certainly can, and it's really cool to get to explore that side of me, Isa, but through Connie."
Connie's only in the show's first act, but the actress playing her always makes a memorable impression with the showstopping number "Who's Sorry Now" and multiple electric scenes with crooner Bobby Darin, Just in Time's lead character currently played by Jeremy Jordan. Briones departs the musical May 29, and audiences will surely be sorry to see her go — at least until her next stage return.
