The Two character Play delays first preview

The Off-Broadway premiere production of Tennessee Williams' rarely seen The Two-Character Play, directed by Gene David Kirk, has delayed its first preview by three days. The delay is to allow time for additional technical work in the theatre.

Originally scheduled to preview at New World Stages / Stage 5 from 10 Jun 2013, the show will now begin previews on 13 Jun 2013. The Two-Character Play will still open on 19 Jun 2013, and run through to 01 Sep 2013 as originally scheduled.

The Two-Character Play will see Tony and three-time Emmy Award-winner Amanda Plummer will return to the New York stage after a 15-year absence, along with Academy Award-nominated actor Brad Dourif.

Equal parts Southern Gothic thriller, black comedy and psychological drama, The Two-Character Play, written during a time of great personal strife, is abstractly based on Williams' close yet complicated relationship with his sister, Rose.

Reality and fantasy are interwoven as two actors on tour-brother and sister-find themselves deserted by their troupe. Faced by an audience expecting a performance, they enact The Two-Character Play. As they dip in and out of performance they find it difficult to differentiate themselves from their roles and reality from illusion.

The Two-Character Play is being produced by Robert Driemeyer, Jim A. Landé, and Morgan Sills.

The creative team includes scenic design by Alice Walkling, costumes by Lara DeBruijn, lighting design by Jake Fine, sound design by Phillip Hewitt and fight choreography by Rick Sordelet.

The Two-Character Play debuted in 1967 in London, and was produced on Broadway in 1973 by David Merrick, under the title 'Out Cry,' starring Michael York. Considered too experimental for its time, Williams continued working on the play and published his final version in The Theatre of Tennessee Williams Volume 5.

After years of withholding rights, Williams' estate granted permission for Gene David Kirk to present the play at London's Jermyn Street Theatre in Oct 2010. where he served as Artistic Director.

Amanda Plummer won the 1982 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance as 'Agnes' in 'Agnes of God,' and was nominated for Tony Awards for her appearances in 'A Taste of Honey' and 'Pygmalion.' Plummer won Three Emmy Awards for her guest appearances in ""Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "The Outer Limits" and Outstanding Supporting Actress for the TV special "Miss Rose White."

Brad Dourif was nominated for an Oscar for his role as "Billy Bibbit" in the 1975 movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," and was nominaed for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for hos role as "Doc Cochran" in "Deadwood." Other notable film work includes "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," "Dune" and "Mississippi Burning."
