The Pee-wee Herman Show plays final performance

The The Pee-wee Herman Show, which sees film and television icon 'Pee-wee Herman' (Paul Reubens) make his Broadway debut, plays its final performance on 2 Jan 2011, having played 8 previews and 62 regular performances.

The Pee-wee Herman Show opened at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on 11 Nov 2010, following previews from 2 Oct, for a limited engagement that was originally scheduled to close on 5 Dec 2010. The show arrived on Broadway direct from its run in Los Angeles

The show opened on Broadway to mostly mixed reviews: Gleeful dash of sunny but slightly subversive fun (NY Daily News); Daffy, kitschy and ridiculously fun (Time Out NY); Newcomers (to Pee-Wee Herman) are unlikely to be converted (Variety)

Based on Reubens' 1981 cult classic stage production, The Pee-wee Herman Show, with new elements from the CBS show "Pee-wee's Playhouse" added generously, this new production is written by Paul Reubens and Bill Steinkellner, with additional material by John Paragon.

The show stars Paul Reubens as 'Pee-wee Herman,' and also features John Moody (Mailman Mike), John Paragon (Jambi the Genie), Lynne Marie Stewart (Miss Yvonne), Jesse Garcia (Sergio the Handyman), Phil LaMarr (Cowboy Curtis), Josh Meyers, Drew Powell and Lance Roberts.

Directed by Alex Timbers (Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson), The Pee-wee Herman Show will feature music by Jay Cotton and the work of puppetry artist Basil Twist.

Based on the Saturday morning television show that became a cultural phenomenon, The Pee-wee Herman Show reunites the one-and-only Pee-wee Herman (Paul Reubens) with many of the original Playhouse cast of characters, inncluding Miss Yvonne, Cowboy Curtis, Pterri the Pterodactyl, Jambi the Genie, and Chairry - for an all new celebration of sophisticated silliness.

The Pee-wee Herman Show is 90 minutes of subversive humor and childlike wonder, that charts a day in the life of our bow-tied hero, Pee-wee Herman.

The design team includes David Korins (Scenic Design), Ann Closs-Farley (Costume Design), Jeff Croiter (Lighting Design) and M.L. Dogg (Sound Design).
