The Assembled Parties extends for a third and final time

Manhattan Theatre Club's world premiere production of The Assembled Parties, the new play by Tony Award winner Richard Greenberg, directed by Lynne Meadow, has extended its run for a third and final time and will now play through to 28 Jul 2013.

The Assembled Parties opened at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 17 Apr 2013, following previews from 21 Mar 2013, and was originally scheduled to close on 02 Jun 2013.

Judith Light, who stars as 'Faye,' recently won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in The Assembled Parties.

Light became the first actor in almost 20 years to receive back to back Tony Awards, having won the 2012 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress for her performance as 'Silda Grauman' in 'Other Desert Cities.' Previous actors who have achieved that milestone include Stephen Spinella (Tony Awards in 1993 & 1994 for 'Angels in America: Millennium Approaches' and 'Angels in America: Perestroika') and Gwen Verdon (Tony Awards in 1958 & 1959 for 'New Girl in Town' and 'Redhead').

The Assembled Parties must close on 28 Jul 2013 due to previously planned technical renovations taking place at the Friedman before the start of the 2013-2014 theatrical season. When it closes, The Assembled Parties will be the longest-running show in MTC's 10-year history at the Friedman, eclipsing the runs of 'Venus in Fur,' 'Good People,' 'Time Stands Still,' and 'Rabbit Hole.'

The comic-drama opened to mostly excellent reviews: This production is a gift that elevates his text to a dizzying height, truly a shining example of the best of ensemble work. (newyorktheatreguide.com); In a word, charming (NY Times); Warm-hearted but wispy (NY Daily News); Entertaining and humane (Back Stage); As unexpectedly affecting as it is entertaining (Hollywood Reporter).

The Assembled Parties welcomes us to the world of the Bascovs, an Upper West Side Jewish family in 1980. In a sprawling Central Park West apartment, former movie star Julie Bascov (Jessica Hecht) and her sister-in-law Faye (Judith Light) bring their families together for their traditional holiday dinner. But tonight, things are not usual. A house guest has joined the festivities for the first time and he unwittingly - or perhaps by design - insinuates himself into the family drama. Twenty years later, as 2001 approaches, the Bascovs' seemingly picture-perfect life may be about to crumble.

The cast for The Assembled Parties featuresJessica Hecht (Julie), Judith Light (Faye), Jeremy Shamos (Jeff), Mark Blum (Mort), Jonathan Walker (Ben), Alex Dreier (Timmy), Lauren Blumenfeld (Shelly) and Jake Silbermann (Scotty/Tim).

Jeremy Shamos will depart the production on 07 Jul 2013. His replacement will be announced shortly.

The creative team includes: Santo Loquasto (scenic design), Jane Greenwood (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), and Obadiah Eaves (original music & sound design).
