The 39 Steps extends its run by one week

Roundabout Theatre Company has announced a one-week extension of Alfred Hitchcocks The 39 Steps, now playing through to 29 Mar 2008.

The 39 Steps opened at the American Airlines on 15 Jan 2008, following previews from 4 Jan and was originally schedued to close on 23 Mar 2008.

The 39 Steps opened to mostly excellent reviews: "Entertaining comedy" (New York Theatre Guide); "Throwaway theater at its finest. And thats no backhanded compliment."; (NY Times); "Pushed Hitchcock's brilliance into some riotous realm of satire, without losing its essentially Hitchcockian flavor" (NY Post); "A jaunty homage to Hitchcock, "The 39 Steps" is whirlwind funny business." (Star-Ledger); "An utterly pointless but physically and conceptually ingenious spoof " (NewsDay); "See the movie. And forget the show." (Journal News); "An entertaining diversion"; (Variety).

Patrick Barlow's comic adaptation of John Buchans classic spy thriller is a spoof of the book and the Hitchcock film. The unstageable thriller is staged, with four cast members playing a minimum of 150 roles. The story revolves around an innocent man who learns too much about a dangerous spy ring and is then pursued across Scotland, before returning to London to foil the villains dastardly plans.

The 39 Steps contains every single legendary scene from the award-winning movie including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the sensational death-defying finale in the London Palladium, besides many other favourite cinematic moments, including the memorable and controversial stockings and suspenders scene!

The New York premiere of Alfred Hitchcocks The 39 Steps, sees Charles Edwards reprise the role of Richard Hannay, which he played to great acclaim in London.

Edwards is joined by Arnie Burton (Clown), Jennifer Ferrin (Pamela/Margaret) and Cliff Saunders (Clown). The show is directed by Maria Aitkin, who helmed the London production, which won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

The creative team features Peter McKintosh (set and costumes), Kevin Adams (lighting) and Mic Poo (sound).

The broadway production is being presented by the Roundabout Theatre Company, in association with Bob Boyett, Harriet Leve/Ron Nicynski, Stephanie P. McClelland, Fiery Angel Ltd. and the Huntington Theatre Company.
