Love, Loss and What I Wore extends its run
Love, Loss and What I Wore extends its run Producer Daryl Roth has announced that the Off-Broadway World Premiere production of Love, Loss, And What I Wore, an intimate collection of stories by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, will extend its run 3 months and will now run through to 28 Mar 2010. The comedy opened at the Westside Theatre on 1 Oct 2009, following previews from 21 Sep, for what was initially scheduled to be a twelve week engagement running through to 13 Dec 2009. Roth, who has produced six Pulitzer Prize-winning plays, explained, "It's very apparent to all of us committed to this production that Love, Loss, And What I Wore is touching audiences at every performance. I am so happy to know that their reaction is giving this wonderful piece an extended life, and that people of all ages - mothers, daughters, sisters, friends - are all relating to these moving and funny stories." Directed by Karen Carpenter, Love, Loss, And What I Wore is a collection of vignettes and monologues ibased on the best-selling book by Ilene Beckerman, as well as on the recollections of the Ephrons' friends. "'The Vagina Monologues' without the vaginas," is how the Ephrons describe this theatrical event. The show opened to mostly good reviews: "akin to a warm estrogen bath" (NY Times); "By turns funny, poignant, and occasionally rueful" (AP); "a bittersweet meditation on the joys and tribulations of women's lives" The show features rotating. The complete line-up for the first 12 weeks of the run is as follows: The opening cast (21 Sep - 18 Oct) includes Samantha Bee, Tyne Daly, Katie Finneran, Natasha Lyonne and Rosie O'Donnell. The second cast (21 Oct - 15 Nov) includes Mary Birdsong, Tyne Daly, Lisa Joyce, Jane Lynch and Mary Louise Wilson. The third cast (18 Nov - 13 Dec) includes Kristin Chenoweth, Lucy DeVito, Capathia Jenkins, Rhea Perlman and Rita Wilson. Casting for the extension will be announced shortly. The creative team features sets by Jo Winiarski, costumes by Jessica Jahn, lighting by Jeff Croiter and sound by Walter Trarbach. A portion of the production's proceeds will benefit Dress for Success, a charity that provides work clothing and job support for low-income women. Audience members will be invited to donate their gently-used purses and other accessories in the theatre lobby.
