Lorna Courtney, Casey Likes to star in 'Heathers The Musical' off Broadway

The Tony Award-nominated & Juliet star and the Back to the Future star will lead the first New York revival of the stage adaptation of the cult classic film.

How very! Lorna Courtney and Casey Likes will lead the cast of Heathers The Musical off Broadway, which will play a limited run at New World Stages from June 22 to September 28.

Courtney is best known for her Tony Award-nominated performance in & Juliet, originating the title role in the Broadway musical. Likes has previously starred as Marty McFly in Back to the Future and William Miller in Almost Famous, both on Broadway, and as Gene Simmons in the film Spinning Gold.

In Heathers, the actors will star as Veronica Sawyer and J.D., respectively.

“Playing Veronica is like being given the keys to a world of contradictions. She's strong, vulnerable, comedic, and heartbreaking all at once,” said Courtney in a statement. “It’s a character that demands you find your voice, even as the world burns around you. To play her is to find the power in being yourself, no matter how messy that is.”

“I’m really thrilled and honored to play the role of J.D.,” Likes said in a statement. “This role and story have meant a lot to people since the film came out, and ignited again since the creation of the musical, and I’m just looking forward to joining and hopefully honoring the legacy of that, while making it my own.

“Getting to dive into the complicated, sometimes dark, sometimes hopeful nature of J.D. is not only something I’m excited to do, alongside the amazing Lorna Courtney, but also something I hope to surprise audiences with.”

Additional Heathers The Musical cast members have yet to be announced.

Directed by Andy Fickman, Heathers The Musical is a stage adaptation of the cult classic 1988 film starring Winona Ryder. Veronica, a high school nobody, gets a taste of popularity when she joins the exclusive Heathers clique. But then comes J.D., a mysterious and rebellious student with more murderous ideas about popularity.

Heathers The Musical first ran at New World Stages in 2014 and has since enjoyed over 200 productions worldwide.
