They invented the Post-It! Laura Bell Bundy and Kara Lindsay will play the title roles in Romy & Michele: The Musical off Broadway this fall, which starts performances at Stage 42 on October 14 ahead of an October 28 opening.

Bundy is best known for originating starring roles in two other movie-to-musical adaptations on Broadway — Elle Woods in Legally Blonde (Tony nomination) and Amber von Tussle in Hairspray — while Lindsay is known for Broadway roles including Katherine Plumber in Newsies and Glinda in Wicked. Most recently, she played Winnifred in the 2024 revival of Once Upon a Mattress as the standby for Sutton Foster.

Now, Bundy will play Romy, and Lindsay will play Michele, the roles originated in the cult classic 1997 film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion by Mira Sorvino (coincidentally making her Broadway debut in Chicago from September 15 to November 2) and Lisa Kudrow, respectively. The story follows two best friends who, lacking success in their post-high school lives, make up fake careers to impress their former classmates at their 10-year reunion — a plan that hilariously backfires.

Also joining the Romy & Michele Off-Broadway cast are Jordan Kai Burnett as Heather Mooney/Ensemble, DeMarius R. Copes and Ninako Donville as members of the ensemble, Erica Dorfler as Kelly Possenger/Ensemble, Michael Thomas Grant as Sandy Frink/Ensemble, Je'Shaun Jackson as Toby Walters/Ensemble, Pascal Pastrana as Billy Christianson/Ensemble, and Lauren Zakrin as Christie Masters/Ensemble.

As previously announced, Romy & Michele: The Musical features a script by Robin Schiff, who adapted her own screenplay for the stage; a score by Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay; direction by Kristin Hanggi; and orchestrations by Keith Harrison Dworkin.

Additional creative team members have yet to be announced.
