About Romy & Michele: The Musical

Get ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical tickets on New York Theatre Guide to head to pop culture's favorite high school reunion. A new musical comedy based on the cult film starring Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow, ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical comes to Stage 42 starting this fall with a pop-infused score that will take you right back to the 1980s and 90s. Full of gags, outfits, and — yes — Post-its, ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical makes returning to high school ecstatically fun.

In ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical off Broadway, the titular besties are now a decade out of school, but they are far from acting like adults. As they head to the dreaded ten-year reunion, they come up with an outrageous plan to re-invent themselves and finally impress their former classmates. Misadventures ensue in this joyride of a musical.

ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical is written by the film’s screenwriter Robin Schiff, with a nonstop fun score by Gwendolyn Sanford and Brandon Jay (Orange is the New Black). Kristin Hanggi (Broadway’s Rock of Ages) directs this new musical.

“Romy and Michele have been icons of friendship, fashion, and individuality from the moment we first met them,” said producers Barry Kemp and Stephen Soucy in a statement. “Bringing their story to the New York Stage is the perfect home for their bold and quirky spirit to be reborn. We can’t wait for audiences to enjoy this hilarious and heart-filled new musical.”

The film was actually based on a play and featured its own starry theatre cast, including Tony Award winner Alan Cumming in a supporting role. Now, the film is a cult classic and is coming to New York after its initial bow in Seattle. Tickets to ROMY & MICHELE: The Musical in New York are available now.
