Batter up! The Pitch, a new baseball drama, will make its Off-Broadway debut in September. Performances begin September 26 ahead of an October 5 opening night, and the show will run until November 14.

Stan Freeman's play follows a duo of sportswriters, a rookie and a veteran in the business, who team up to write a biography about a baseball pitcher named Vernon Peters. The veteran sportswriter, Roger Pennell, knew Peters in high school, prior to the pitcher's one-game stint in major league baseball and his subsequent retreat into obscurity. It becomes clear that Peters' odd career begs a secret, and Pennell is entangled in it.

The cast includes John Haag as Pennell, Julian Findlay as the young sportswriter Mike Resnick, Jack Press as Peters, Kelly Strandemo as Pauline, and Dennis Lee as the voice of the baseball announcer. Danny Eaton will direct.

The rest of the creative team includes set designer Greg Trochlil, lighting designer Matthew Sells, and costume designer Dawn McKay.

The Pitch had its world premiere at the Majestic Theater in West Springfield, Massachusetts, in 2020. It will now play off Broadway at the Jerry Orbach Theater at the Theater Center, which is currently showing The Office: A Musical Parody! until September 19.

The Pitch tickets will be available soon.
