Pre-sale tickets are now available on TodayTix.
A Broadway premiere by any other name would sound as sweet! The hit musical & Juliet has announced a Broadway transfer following its acclaimed premiere in London's West End and North American premiere in Toronto. Performances begin at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on October 28 ahead of a November 17 opening night.
& Juliet tickets are now available on TodayTix, which is hosting a pre-sale through July 13.
& Juliet is a contemporary reimagining of what would happen if Juliet did not die at the end of Shakespeare's tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare's wife, Anne Hathaway, rewrites the ending and has Juliet travel to Paris with her friends on a coming-of-age journey. The book is by David West Read, a writer on the Emmy Award-winning TV series Schitt's Creek.
The show uses the pop music songbook of Max Martin, who has written hits like Britney Spears's "...Baby One More Time" and "Oops!... I Did It Again," Demi Lovato's "Confident," Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," and the Backstreet Boys' "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" and "I Want It That Way." Thirty of Martin's songs are included in the musical.
& Juliet had its world premiere in London's West End in 2019 and received nine Olivier Award nominations, including Best New Musical. The London Theatre review of & Juliet reads, "This likeable and sometimes spectacular production... gives [pop songs] a full-bodied and full-blooded outing. Frequently resembling a series of pop videos come to life — thanks to performance platforms that come out of the floor, or benches that take on an aerial life of their own... it is performed with a glinting knowingness and powerful pop theatre voices."
The North American premiere kicked off in Toronto on June 22 and runs through August 14. The cast from that production will transfer to Broadway, including Lorna Courtney as Juliet, Tony winner Paulo Szot as Lance, Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Stark Sands as Shakespeare, Justin David Sullivan as May, Melanie La Barrie as Nurse, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo, and Philippe Arroyo as Francois.
The ensemble includes Brandon Antonio, Nico DeJesus, Nicholas Edwards, Virgil Gadson, Katy Geraghty, Bobby "Pocket" Horner, Joomin Hwang, Michael Iván Carrier, Alaina Vi Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Joe Moeller, Brittany Nicholas, Veronica Otim, Jasmine Rafael, Matt Raffy, Tiernan Tunnicliffe and Rachel Webb.
The creative team from the London premiere reunites for & Juliet on Broadway, including set designer Soutra Gilmour, costume designer Paloma Young, lighting designer Howard Hudson, sound designer Gareth Owen, music supervisor, orchestrator, and arranger Bill Sherman, hair, wig, and makeup designer J. Jared Janas, and music director Dominic Fallacaro.
