Millions of people come from all over the world each year to see Broadway shows — and if you're one of them, you're going to need a place to stay. If your trip is centered around theatregoing, it makes sense to book a hotel in the Theatre District — and luckily, there are plenty, from familiar chains with basic amenities to exclusive NYC crown jewels.

Below, check out our picks for some of the best hotels to book in the Theatre District. We've listed the theatres closest to each one, but know that, since a majority of Broadway venues are all clustered around Times Square, even the ones not listed are a short walk or ride away.

CIVILIAN Hotel

Conveniently located across the block from the Walter Kerr and Longacre Theatres, the CIVILIAN is not only chic, but convenient. Retro-meets-modern decor and a bright, lively atmosphere define this 27-story hotel designed by David Rockwell, a Tony Award-winning Broadway set designer.

Whether or not you're staying there, we recommend checking out the Starchild Rooftop Bar, which has gorgeous, panoramic city views. Or, stop by the Rosevale Cocktail Room, which offers a pre-show prix fixe menu, a 7-9 p.m. happy hour, and live jazz Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Marriott Marquis Hotel

The Marriott Marquis has a Broadway theatre right inside the building, so you really can't get much closer to world-class entertainment than that. Surprisingly, that's not even the only thing the Marquis is best known for. The View, NYC's only revolving restaurant, is an equally popular attraction. It's one of the highest restaurants in NYC and offers unparalleled views.

Guests get to stay in one of 1,971 sleek, renovated rooms on one of 36 floors. You don't even have to go to The View to get a good look at the skyline — floor-to-ceiling windows in the guestrooms provide a similar experience.

Times Square EDITION

The kids will love this one because it's mere steps from the Hershey and M&M stores, and adults will love it because it offers discounts if you stay two nights or more. This luxury boutique hotel offers standard rooms with various types of city views and suites that add a couch and a soaking tub to the existing list of amenities.

The EDITION has a Broadway connection, too: Its Paradise Club has hosted concerts by various Broadway performers. Time your visit right, and you could experience theatrical entertainment, plus food by Michelin-starred chef John Fraser, without having to leave the hotel.

Hilton New York Times Square

You know the Hiltons, you love the Hiltons — yes, Paris and family are the Hiltons of the hotel name. Hampton Inn

Hampton Inn locations are reliable and clean and have plenty of basic amenities. There's one around every corner, which makes their convenience second to none. There are three locations nestled in and around Times Sq, thus close to every theatre and entertainment spot in the bright lights of the city's center.

The Manhattan at Times Square Hotel

The Art Deco style of the 1920s is a big feature of some of the best hotels in the city, and the Manhattan at Times Square Hotel is no exception. Right by Rockefeller Center as well as the Museum of Modern Art, this hotel offers an ease of location with the slick, modernist design that feel both timeless and chic. And it's pet-friendly, so you can drop off you cat, dog, or parrot off before you head to a show.

Sofitel New York

Directly across from the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, the Casablanca Hotel, named for the iconic romantic drama starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, is right in the heart of the action in the Theatre District. There's even a little coffee shop called Rick's Café with a fireplace! You can even get room service from two restaurants on the block, Tony's di Napoli and Brooklyn Diner, if you want to maximize your time in-room while still having a delicious pre-show meal.

Hotel Edison

Surrounded by theatres, this elegant Art Deco-style hotel dating from 1931 is a five-minute walk from the Times Square subway station and within a mile of Radio City Music Hall and the Empire State Building. It's also on the same block as numerous Broadway theatres.

Whether you stay there or not, there's a great cocktail lounge to take advantage of after a show: the Rum House, filled with classic '40s vibes and delicious cocktails. The Edison also has direct ties to Broadway: The spacious ballroom has been home to shows' opening night parties and other events, and at the in-house American restaurant Friedman's, you can encounter singing waiters as a part of the special event, Gayle's Broadway Rose.

Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan

Seated slightly above the Theatre District, but still within walking distance of some of the best theatres, the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan is a chill spot amidst the chaos. It's a quick jaunt to Broadway, and you can look out onto the crowd while enjoying high-speed internet. There's also an office space with a printer if you need to print out any theatre tickets you ordered online.

Belvedere Hotel

The Belvedere, a boutique hotel tucked away on 48th Street, is a great option for those looking for a little more calm and quiet outside the heart of Times Square. You need only walk 5-10 minutes from there, though, to get to this elegant Art Deco hotel that looks almost castle-like.

M Social Hotel

The M Social has hosted multiple public events in collaboration with Moulin Rouge! The Musical, but it's a great spot to stay in between events, too. The M Social is located on the northern end of Times Square, so you're closer to theatres other hotels aren't — like Studio 54 and the Neil Simon Theatre, home to MJ.
