Two by Two: Jason Alexander and Tovah Feldshuh
The York Theatre Company has announced that Broadway veterans Jason Alexander ("Seinfeld," 'Jerome Robbins' Broadway') and Tovah Feldshuh ('Golda's Balcony,' 'Irena's Vow') will star in the season opener of the Winter 2013 Musicals in Mufti Series: Two By Two, with book by Peter Stone, lyrics by Martin Charnin and music by the legendary Richard Rodgers.
Additional casting will be announced shortly.
Directed by Martin Charnin (Annie) and with Music Direction by Keith Levenson (Annie), the limited engagement will play 5 performances from 15 - 17 Feb 2013, at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's.
Composer Richard Rodgers entered his seventh decade of writing for the theatre with Broadway's 1970 Two By Two starring Danny Kaye. The story of Noah and the Ark is a musical adaptation of Clifford Odets' play 'The Flowering Peach' and is retold with Noah and his family characterized in modern Jewish vernacular. It seems that the building of the ark was only the first of Noah's many daunting challenges in a journey that wasn't always smooth sailing.
Musicals in Mufti will continue with 'Hollywood Pinafore' (Kaufman/Sullivan) (1 -3 Mar 2013), Happy Hunting (Lindsay & Crouse/Dubey/Karr) (15-17 March 2013), and Silk Stockings (Kaufman/MacGrath/Porter) (22-24 March 2013) at The York Theatre Company at its home in Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).
Producing Artistic Director James Morgan said, "For the last couple of years, York has explored the Off-Broadway musical, and with this series, we are excited to return to the world of Broadway and take a look at several more of its gems. This will be a series of celebrations and discoveries for everyone to enjoy."
The York Theatre Company's acclaimed Musicals in Mufti series of musical theatre gems, in a simply-staged, book-in-hand concert format, has presented over 80 shows from the past in its eighteen-year history. Mufti means: "in street clothes, without the trappings associated with the original full productions."
