The Tempest extends its run by one week and will now play through to 19 Oct

The Classic Stage Company has extended the run of its new production of William Shakespeares The Tempest starring Tony Award winner Mandy Patinkin (Evita), by one week.

The play opened at the Classic Stage Company on 18 Sep 2008, following previews from 3 Sep, for a limited run that was originally to end on 12 Oct 2008, but will now play through to 19 Oct 2008.

The show opened to mixed reviews: "...Mandy, this is 'The Tempest,' not 'Merchant of Venice.' You're Prospero, not Shylock." (New York Theatre Guide); "Mandy Patinkin gives a laboriously heavy-handed and arm-waving performance, thick of voice but thin on poetry." (Bloomdale); "This "Tempest" is a triumph that will please all lovers of Shakespeare and good theater." (AP)
