The New Group presents Sticks and Bones by David Rabe
The New Group has announced that the first production of its upcoming season at the Pershing Square Signature Center will be a revival of David Rabe's comedy-drama Sticks and Bones, directed by Scott Elliott. Previews are expected to begin in October 2014 and the limited run will conclude on 14 December 2014.
Synopsis: "A portrait of an average American family pulled apart by the return of a son from the Vietnam War. Ozzie and his wife Harriet are overjoyed to see their eldest son David again, but the furies that haunt David begin to overwhelm them and their happy-go-lucky younger son Rick, forcing Ozzie to make a stand for the values he can't bear to let go."
The cast of Sticks and Bones includes Academy Award and Emmy Award winner Holly Hunter (Harriet), Bill Pullman (Ozzie), Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Richard Chamberlain (Father Donald), Nadia Gan (Zung), Morocco Omari (Sergeant Major), Ben Schnetzer (David), and Raviv Ullman (Rick).
This production will mark the first major New York revival of Sticks and Bones. It originally premiered at the Public Theater in 1971, before transferring to Broadway's John Golden Theatre in 1972. It went on to capture that year's Tony Award for Best Play.
The creative team features scenic design by Derek McLane, costumes by Susan Hilferty, lighting by Peter Kaczorowski, sound design and original music by Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen, and projections and video design by Olivia Sebesky.
The New Group has also announced first details of two further productions in its 2014-2015 season: Firstly, the New York premiere of Rasheeda Speaking, written by Joel Drake Johnson, featuring the directorial debut of Cynthia Nixon and starring Tonya Pinkins and Dianne Wiest. Previews are expected to begin in January 2015. Secondly, the world premiere of The Spoils, a new play written by and featuring Jesse Eisenberg, directed by Scott Elliott, which is expecting to begin previews in May 2015.
