The Commons of Pensacola: casting announced
Manhattan Theatre Club has that Emmy and Tony award winner Blythe Danner and Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Jessica Parker will return to MTC at New York City Center Stage I in the world premiere of The Commons of Pensacola, a new play by Amanda Peet, directed by MTC's award-winning artistic director Lynne Meadow.
The Commons of Pensacola will open at on 21 Nov 2013, following previews from 22 Oct 2013.
Danner is currently appearing on Broadway in 'Nice Work If You Can Get It.' She won a Tony in 1970 for 'Butterflies Are Free' and has received Tony nominations for 'Betrayal,' 'A Streetcar Named Desire' and 'Follies.' She received back-to-back Emmy Awards for her role in Showtime's series "Huff." Her many film roles include "The Lucky One," "Hello, I Must Be Going" and "Meet The Parents."
Parker most recently appeared on the New York stage in MTC's 2001 production of 'Wonder of the World' by David Lindsay-Abaire. Her other theatrical credits include 'The Substance of Fire,' 'The Heidi Chronicles,' 'Once Upon a Mattress,' and 'Annie.' She received four Golden Globe, three SAG Awards, and two Emmy Awards for her role as "Carrie Bradshaw" in HBO's "Sex and The City."
Danner and Parker reunite having previously starred together in MTC's 1995 production 'Sylvia' by A.R. Gurney.
The Commons of Pensacola: Judith (Blythe Danner) has been divested of her assets and forced to leave her luxurious New York life after her husband's Wall Street scam became headline news. When her daughter Becca (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Becca's filmmaker boyfriend pay Judith a visit to the one bedroom condo Judith now occupies in Pensacola, Florida, everyone's motives are called into question. How will past and present circumstances inform how this family moves into the future?
The Commons of Pensacola marks Peet's professional playwrighting debut. As an actress she is known for her film roles including "Something's Gotta Give" and "Igby Goes Down." Her stage credits include Neil Simon's 'Barefoot in the Park,' and roles in the Neil LaBute plays 'Break of Noon' and 'This Is How It Goes.' She'll next be seen in HBO's new series "Togetherness."
Meadow (director) has been the leader of Manhattan Theatre Club since 1972. She is currently represented on Broadway with the world premiere of Richard Greenberg's 'The Assembled Parties.' Last season, she directed Cynthia Nixon in her Tony nominated performance in the Broadway premiere of 'Wit' which also received a Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Play.
