The show opened at the Martinson Theater on 17 Oct 2011, following previews from 11 Oct, for a limited engagement that was due to end on 13 Nov 2011, but was extended by four weeks to 4 Dec 2011.
The show opened to mostly excellent reviews: More than social commentary (newyorktheatreguide); Smart, pointed & often very funny (NY Times); Provocative & stingingly funny (NY Daily News).
Artistic Director Oskar Eustis said, "The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs is coming back because it must. There has been huge demand for Mike Daisey's wonderful show, a demand that is fueled both by the brilliance of his performance and the importance of his subject. This show speaks to the heart of America, who we are, the way we live and what we value. I am thrilled that Mike has struck such a nerve."
In The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs Mike Daisey turns his wit to America's most mysterious technology icon. He illuminates how the CEO of Apple and his obsessions shape our lives, while sharing stories of his own travel to China to investigate the factories where millions toil to make iPhones and iPods.
The design team features scenery and lighting by Seth Reiser.
Mike Daisey's (Creator and Performer) monologues include 'The Last Cargo Cult,' 'How Theater Failed America,' the six-hour epic 'Great Men of Genius,' 'All Stories Are Fiction,' and '21 Dog Years.' His next monologue will be 'All the Hours in the Day,' a 24-hour performance that charts the epic story of America's essential character as a weaving together of puritanism and anarchism, which will be performed at the Time Based Art Festival in Portland, and the Under the Radar Festival in New York.
