'SIDES: The Fear is Real' at The Culture Project
Mr. Miyagi's Theatre Company, in association with The Culture Project, present SIDES: The Fear is Real, a comedy about the trials of actors in their search for employment, opening at The Culture Project on the 25 Aug 2005, following previews from the 18 Aug. The comedy is playing through to the 27 Oct 2005.
In SIDES: The Fear is Real, which was originally produced by Ma-Yi Theater Company in New York, the audience follows six, hopeful actors in their quest for entertainment employment through true life audition nightmares. Terrible scripts, psychotic casting directors, and competitive colleagues all stand in their way. In a series of comedic vignettes and scenes, these brave actors face their fears and almost triumph!
SIDES: The Fear is Real is performed by Sekiya Billman, Jane Cho, Paul H, Juhn, Peter Kim, Hoon Lee and Rodney To.
SIDES: The Fear is Real was written by Sekiya Billman, Cindy Cheung, Paul H. Juhn, Peter Kim, Hoon Lee & Rodney To, and is directed by Anne Kauffman, with a creative team that includes David Korins (set design), John-Paul Szczepanski (light design) and Elizabeth Flauto (costume design).
Mr. Miyagi's Theatre Company originally began in 2001 when six actor-friends wanted to work together. Rather than waiting for an opportunity to present itself, they began creating projects. After 'Hot Stuff High' (a tribute to the John Hughes films of the 80s), they began working on SIDES: The Fear is Real.
What they thought would be an underground show for family and friends, turned into an incredible splash which went on to win Best Ensemble Award at the 2003 Fringe and opened to positive reviews in the Spring of 2005 at P.S. 122.
