Hadestown is getting a new ruler. Patrick Page, who has played the role of Hades in the Tony Award-winning musical since 2016, will depart the show on December 30. Tom Hewitt, who previously played Hades in 2021, will rejoin the company in his place.

Page first starred as Hades in Hadestown's 2016 Off-Broadway premiere at New York Theatre Workshop. He reprised the role in the subsequent Edmonton, London, and Broadway productions. For his Broadway performance, Page received a Tony Award nomination.

Hadestown puts a contemporary twist on the myth of the lovers Orpheus and Eurydice, in which Orpheus journeys to Hades's underworld to rescue her. The show, which features a book and folk and jazz music by Anaïs Mitchell, won eight Tonys in 2019, including Best Musical.

Original cast members Reeve Carney (Orpheus) and Eva Noblezada (Eurydice) remain with the cast. The Hadestown Broadway cast also includes Jewelle Blackman as Persephone; Lillias White as Hermes; and Amelia Cormack, Soara-Joye Ross, and Mariand Torres as the Fates.
