Miles to Babylon at the American Theatre of Actors

Evensong Associates presents Miles to Babylon, by Ann Harson, at the American Theatre of Actors from 12 - 29 Oct 2006.

Miles to Babylon: Eugene O'Neill was not kind to his mother in his memoir drama, Long Day's Journey into Night, depicting her as a hapless morphine addict with no hope of recovery.

In Ann Harson's riveting new drama, Ella O'Neill, the wealthy wife of a matinee idol, returns to her midwest convent school seeking to cure herself with the help of her beloved mentor. On arriving, she learns her teacher has died, and, in her place, Ella finds her schoolgirl rival, Dolores, left as Mother Superior of the school, in dire need of funds. Crushed, Ella gives up the hope of ever withdrawing from the drug until a new friendship with Catherine, a bright young postulant, gives her courage to persevere.

Incarcerating herself in her bedroom and carefully guarded by the pious retarded convent handyman, Archie, Ella battles the demon within.

Directed by Tom Thornton, Miles to Babylon features Karen Gibson (Ella O'Neill), James Nugent (Archie), Angela Della Ventura (Mother Dolores), Rachel Schwartz (Catherine, a postulant) and Denise Fiore (Amelia, a postulant).

Set design by Michael Anania, with costumes by Alice Bryant, lighting by Alex Moore and sound by Elliot Lanes.
