Mandi Masden & McKinley Belcher III to star in The Light at MCC Theater's new home

The New York premiere of The Light begins performances at The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space on January 23, 2019.

Drama Desk Award winner McKinley Belcher III and Mandi Masden have been cast in the roles of Rashad and Genesis, respectively, in the previously announced New York premiere of The Light, written by Loy A. Webb and directed by Logan Vaughn.

The Light will mark the first production to begin performances at MCC Theater's new home in Hell's Kitchen - The Robert W. Wilson MCC Theater Space. Previews begin at The Susan and Ronald Frankel Theater on January 23, 2019, ahead of an official opening on February 10 and a limited engagement through to March 17, 2019.

McKinley Belcher III previously appeared off-Broadway in Lincoln Center Theater's Drama Desk Award-winning production of The Royale in 2016 and Classic Stage Company's 2013 revival of Romeo and Juliet. He is perhaps best known for his TV roles on "Mercy Street," "Ozark," and "Show Me a Hero".

Mandi Masden has previously appeared on Broadway in Manhattan Theatre Club's productions of Saint Joan in 2018 and August Wilson's Jitney in 2017. Her Off-Broadway credits include the Signature Theatre productions of Our Lady of Kibeho in 2014 and The Piano Lesson in 2012.

Synopsis: "Not every marriage proposal goes as planned. The Light introduces us to Rashad and Genesis on what should be one of the happiest days of their lives, but their joy quickly unravels when ground-shifting accusations from the past resurface in this gripping two character drama. Can their relationship survive the growing divide between them over who - and what - to believe? The Light is a reckoning that unfolds in real-time and peels away the layers of truth, doubt, pain, and ultimately the power of love."

The creative team behind The Light features scenic design by Kimie Nishikawa, costume design by Emilio Sosa, lighting design by Ben Stanton, and sound design by Elisheba Ittoop.

The world premiere of The Light was staged at The Den Theatre in Chicago, Illinois, in January 2018, presented by The New Colony.
