'Is This A Room' and 'Dana H.' to close on Broadway November 14
The plays were originally scheduled for performances through January 16.
UPDATE: Is This A Room and Dana H will now continue at the Lyceum Theatre to November 28. Both plays were due to close on November 14 but will now play for an additional two weeks due to demand.
"We are completely overwhelmed by the response to our closing announcement," said producers Sally Horchow, Dori Berinstein and Matt Ross. "The shows have been playing to the packed houses they deserve and we are so happy to be able to keep this run going for another two weeks. We hope audiences will continue to come out and experience these two extraordinary plays for themselves."
The Broadway productions of Is This A Room and Dana H. will close two months earlier than originally scheduled. The plays, which are performed at the Lyceum Theatre on a rotating schedule, had an original closing date of January 16.
"Each of these plays expands the definition of what a Broadway play can be in thrilling and innovative ways. While we would've loved to run through our original end date, we recognize that we are in a challenging landscape for live performance and we're grateful to have had a chance to share this work," producers Dori Berinstein, Sally Horchow, and Matt Ross said in a statement.
Is This A Room began performances September 24 and opened October 11. Tina Satter's play stages the verbatim transcript of the FBI's interrogation of then-25-year-old Reality Winner. Winner, played by Emily Davis, is a former Air Force linguist who was charged with and ultimately convicted of leaking confidential information about Russian election interference to the FBI. The New York Theatre Guide review praised the production: "The genius of the performance of the entire cast is the contradiction between what they are saying and what is actually the truth ... it is the tension of who will fold first that makes Is This A Room as taut and thrilling as any episode of Law & Order."
Dana H. is Lucas Hnath's play about a harrowing incident that happened to his own mother, Dana Higganbotham. In the show, Deirdre O'Connell lip-syncs a recorded interview of Higganbotham herself, in which she describes how she was kidnapped and held captive for five months by a patient at the psych ward where she worked. The New York Theatre Guide review reads, "This is more than mere mimicry or precise facial expressions; this is a full body experience that transcends imitation."
Both Is This A Room and Dana H. premiered off Broadway in Vineyard Theatre's 2019-2020 season.
