Irish Repertory Theatre presents NY premiere of Quietly
The Irish Repertory Theatre, in association with The Public Theater, presents the Abbey Theatre production of Quietly, written by Owen McCafferty and directed by Jimmy Fay. Previews begin on 20 July 2016, before an official opening on 28 July and a limited engagement through to 11 September 2016.
Charlotte Moore and Ciarán O'Reilly of the Irish Rep commented:
"We are very proud to join the Public and Abbey Theatre in presenting this important visceral play. It speaks to our world far beyond the borders of Northern Ireland."Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis added:
"Quietly is a beautiful, powerful, and essential show. It is utterly specific to Northern Ireland, but that very specificity gives it a huge and universal power. The Public is proud to partner with Irish Rep to present this brilliant Abbey Theatre production."Synopsis: "Belfast is a place where things need to be said. Following the 1999 Easter Peace Accord, guns were silenced but the chasm between the Republican and Unionist sides remains wide and bitter. Tonight, in a small back-street bar, Jimmy and Ian will meet for the first time. Forty years before a violent incident irrevocably changed the lives of both men and now they need to talk. Quietly is a play about violence and forgiveness, about the limits of healing, the lottery of bearing witness, and the profit of truth."
Original cast members Declan Conlon (Ian), Patrick O'Kane (Jimmy) and Robert Zawadzki (Robert) will return for this New York production.
The creative team features scenic design by Alyson Cummins, costume design by Catherine Fay, lighting design by Sinéad McKenna, sound design by Philip Stewart, and fight direction by Donal O'Farrell.
The world premiere of Quietly was staged at the Abbey Theatre in 2012, before transferring to the Edinburgh Festival in 2013, and then onto the Soho Theatre - an off-West End venue in London - in 2014.
