Colin Quinn Long Story Short comes to Broadway
Former "Saturday Night Live" and "Comedy Central" star Colin Quinn will move his one-man Off-Broadway show Colin Quinn Long Story Short, directed by Jerry Seinfeld, to Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre, opening on 9 Nov 2010, following previews from 22 Oct and playing a 11-week limited engagement through to 8 Jan 2011. Tickets are now on sale.
Comically channeling the demise of great world empires, Colin Quinn uses his "articulate brand of comedy" in taking audiences through an history of the world in 75 minutes. From his personification of Caesar as the original Italian mobster to his complaints about Ancient Greece and Antigone giving way to Costco and Snooki, Quinn is at his satirical best, taking on the attitudes, appetites and bad habits that toppled the world's most powerful nations. Colin Quinn Long Story Short proves that throughout human history, the joke has always been on us.
The New York Post said of the Off-Broadway production that it's "historical and hysterical. While he dutifully traces his saga from the caveman era to the present, Quinn happens to be very, very funny. Clearly benefited from Seinfeld's influence, with tight pacing and a procession of hilarious one-liners," while NY1 says, "The humor is infused with plenty of witty insights...even wisdom. Quinn with his dry, understated Brooklynese has the perfect delivery for this razor sharp send-up of civilization. I only regret his history of the world in 75 minutes wasn't longer."
The show is produced by Eva Price and Richard Martini. Additional creative team members to be announced.
Colin Quinn Long Story Short previously played a successful engagement at the Bleecker Street Theatre from 19 Jun through to 4 Sep 2010. This marks Colin's return to the Helen Hayes Theatre, previously starring in Colin Quinn - An Irish Wake in 1998.
