Anything Goes to star Joel Grey



Tony and Academy Award winner Joel Grey will return to Broadway as 'Moonface Martin' in the Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway revival of Cole Porter's Anything Goes, opening at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre on 7 Apr 2011, following previews from 10 Mar 2011.

In a career that was launched in the early 1950's, Grey has created indelible stage roles including the iconic 'M.C.' in Cabaret (Tony Award), as song and dance man 'George M. Cohan' in 'George M!' (Tony nomination), as 'Charley VII' in 'Goodtime Charlie' (Tony nomination), as 'Jacobowsky' in 'The Grand Tour' (Tony nomination), as 'Olim' in New York City Opera's 'Silverlake,' as 'Amos Hart' in the revival of 'Chicago' and as the 'Wonderful Wizard of Oz' in' Wicked.'

As previously snnounced the musical will be directed and choreographed by two time Tony Award-winner Kathleen Marshall (The Pajama Game, Wonderful Town), and star Tony Award-winner Sutton Foster ('Thoroughly Modern Millie)' as 'Reno Sweeney'.

The full cast and design team for Anything Goes is still to be announced.

The musical features score & lyrics by Cole Porter; original book by P.G. Wodehouse & Guy Bolton and Howard Lindsay & Russel Crouse; New book by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman.

Anything Goes: When the S.S. American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention head out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love... proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail.

The score features such classics as 'You're the Top,' 'Blow, Gabriel, Blow,' 'It's De-Lovely,' 'I Get A Kick Out of You,' and 'Anything Goes.'

The design team for this new revival of Anything Goes includes Derek McLane (Sets), Martin Pakledinaz (Costumes) and Peter Kaczorowski (Lights).

Anything Goes premiered on Broadway on 21 Nov 1934 at the Alvin Theatre, starring Ethel Merman, directed by Howard Lindsay and choreographed by Robert Alton.

The first Broadway revival of Anything Goes premiered on Broadway on 19 Oct 1987 at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre and won the Tony Award for best revival. It starred Patti LuPone, with direction by Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Michael Smuin.
