All the Céline Dion songs in 'Titanique' on Broadway

The parody musical adaptation of James Cameron's 1997 Titanic film is propelled by the Canadian superstar's hits — including, of course, "My Heart Will Go On."

Céline Dion, dead ahead! Titanique, the deliriously goofy musical spoof of the movie Titanic, gets its forward thrust from the hit catalog of the Canadian pop superstar, who's never met a note she wouldn’t belt to near-Guinness-record heights.

Cruising along on Broadway at the St. James Theatre following runs off Broadway and around the world, the “shining comedy showcase” — per New York Theatre Guide’s rave review — retells the big-screen blockbuster about the brief but hot romance of well-to-do Rose and steerage-status Jack, which blooms during the ship’s doomed maiden voyage in 1912.

The show is the theatrical “lurv” child (as Dion would say) of Marla Mindelle, who stars as the superstar songstress; Constantine Rousouli, who plays Jack; and Tye Blue, who directs this ship of intentional foolery. For good measure, also on hand are Melissa Barrera as Rose, Jim Parsons as Ruth, Deborah Cox as The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Frankie Grande as Victor Garber, John Riddle as Cal, and Layton Williams as The Iceberg.

They’re all saturated by Dion’s music. Read on to learn more about Titanique's songs and how they propel the action.

“My Heart Will Go On”

1.

“I’m Alive”

“I couldn’t get much higher, my spirit takes flight.” Dion declares that in this upbeat 2002 dance-pop hit, which was featured in the movie Stuart Little 2 and, two decades later, sparked a viral dance craze. In the show, Dion is very much alive and pounding her chest when she hijacks a Titanic museum tour to retell the story her way.

In a reprise later in the show, the song takes on a more ironic connotation. An Irish passenger in steerage sings an excerpt in a bit of foreshadowing about the impending disaster.

2.

“Taking Chances”

Released in the fall of 2007, the Billboard US Hot Dance Club Songs chart-topper celebrated embracing risks and emotional courage. A rousing company rendition sets the stage for high adventure and hijinks as the Titanic sets sail. Everyone on board has something at stake.

In a brief reprise, Rose questions her romantic lot and what life will be with her domineering fiancé, Cal.

3.

“Seduces Me”

All-consumptive, head-over-heels passion, anyone? That’s the hot topic of this open-hearted 1996 love song. “Your most innocent kiss or your sweetest caress seduces me,” Cal sings, going on to declare his intentions for a night of romance in blunter, thornier terms to Rose.

Cal, Rose, and Jack reprise the song toward the end of the musical as they (spoiler alert?) consider their cold, watery fates.

4.

“If You Asked Me To”

Before Dion covered this song about unconditional love, Patti LaBelle sang it for the James Bond flick License to Kill. In Titanique, it’s a backdrop for the growing relationship between Rose and Jack, which Dion, uninvited, inserts herself into. In other words: Hey Céline, nobody asked you to!

5.

“Beauty and the Beast”

Yep, it’s the tune about a “tale as old as time.” Angela Lansbury sings it in the 1991 Disney movie, and Dion and Peabo Bryson also teamed up on a version for the soundtrack. Romance is in the air, so it’s a good opportunity for Dion's and Bryson's stand-ins to belt this sugary tune.

6.

“You and I”

The lyrics to the song off Dion's 2004 album soar with poetic — and literal — meaning: “You and I were meant to fly.” Air Canada employed the song for promotional use, and Jack uses it to express his growing feelings for Rose in Titanique.

7.

“Tell Him”

Dion and Barbra Streisand joined voices for this 1997 power ballad about 'fessing up to one’s feelings of love, and the song was nominated for a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration. Molly Brown — ever unsinkable and, it turns out, a girl’s girl — urges Rose to pursue her feelings for Jack. Think Dion can resist butting in? Think again.

8.

“To Love You More”

Released in 1995, the dramatic ballad about devotion and longing has lyrics as plainspoken and emphatic as can be: “I’ll be waiting for you, here inside my heart.” It’s a moment for Rose and Jack, and the whole company gets on board with it for a big finish to Act 1 (before a "two-second intermission").

9.

“Who Let the Dogs Out”

Better question, who let the Baha Men's 2000 Grammy-winning party anthem into this show? Turns out, vintage backstage video shows Dion dancing and singing to this song with her crew. So it’s in the show, briefly, to jump-start Act 2. On stage, Dion herself acknowledges that it's a deep cut.

10.

“I Drove All Night”

Dion covered this uptempo tune, filled with feverishly passionate lyrics, earlier recorded by Roy Orbison and Cyndi Lauper. The vessel’s captain, here called Victor Garber after the onscreen actor who played him, takes on the number as Titanic journeys toward New York.

Garber and his seaman later perform a brief reprise as the voyage continues. But are they cruising too fast for their own good?

11.

“Because You Loved Me”

This soaring, Grammy-winning ballad expressing gratitude was the theme from the film Up Close & Personal. As Jack and Rose try to draw closer to each other, guess who gets between them? Hint: Her name rhymes with neon.

12.

“Where Does My Heart Beat Now”

Dion first publicly performed this song at the Eurovision Song Contest 1989 in Switzerland. It was released on her first English-language album a year later. Jack, Cal, Rose, and the whole company take on the rousing number.

13.

“River Deep, Mountain High"

“If I lost you, would I cry?” So goes this 1966 Tina Turner hit about overwhelming love — the kind that could sink a 52,310-ton boat. love that could capsize. Cue the Iceberg, personified as Turner, who steps on stage in crystal-crusted getup that, just like the frozen formation, slays. In a lip-sync reprise, the whole company has a sinking feeling as they take on the song.

14.

“I Surrender”

Vocal pyrotechnics involved in this 2002 Dion hit would later become a favorite among American Idol contestants flaunting their chops. Rose makes a life-and-death decision in the musical, just like — well, sort of like — in the movie.

In a reprise shortly thereafter, Victor Garber confronts the consequences of his decisions and realizes he’s truly in over his head.

15.

“All By Myself”

Originally a 1975 hit by Eric Carmen, Dion covered the power ballad about loneliness and heartbreak and showed off her vocal range while she was at it. Molly Brown delivers the number and a brief reprise in Titanique. It not only shows she's unsinkable, but also unstoppable in the belting department.

16.

“The Prayer”

“Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace to a place where we'll be safe.” Dion first performed this Golden Globe-winning song song for the 1998 movie musical Quest for Camelot and duetted on it with Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli for her Christmas album These Are Special Times that same year. Led by Rose, the whole company joins in on this song in Titanique.

17.

“A New Day Has Come”

This 2002 single off a same-named album celebrated the birth of Dion’s son. Don’t think you’re leaving Titanique on a downer, even if the boat is at the bottom of the ocean. This tune sets an upbeat mood for you to hit the streets of New York.

18.

“My Heart Will Go On”

Near, far, the iconic Oscar- and Grammy-winning theme from the Titanic movie stays in your head for days wherever you are. It will come as no surprise that Dion leads the company in a titanic, climactic, roof-raising rendition.

Your voice will go on, too, when Dion invites everyone in the St. James Theatre audience to sing along with the cast at curtain call. It's your time to make waves.
