Titanique Information

After a successful livestreamed Maiden Voyage Concert in 2021, the new musical spoof on the film Titanic sets sail with a full Off-Broadway production. GetTitanique tickets on New York Theatre Guide now.

What do you get when, as the production itself describes it, "the music of Céline Dion makes sweet Canadian love with the 11-time Oscar-winning film Titanic"? You get the Titanique musical, which is as much a tragic love story as it is an uproarious comedy. In the show, Dion herself (aka an actress playing Dion) interrupts a Titanic museum tour to share what really happened to Jack and Rose on that fated cruise. Dion incorporates her greatest hits, like "All By Myself," "To Love You More," and of course, "My Heart Will Go On" into her zany take on the classic movie's story.

Tye Blue directs Titanique off Broadway, and he also co-wrote the musical with Marla Mindelle and Constantine Rousouli. The show initially had pop-up concert engagements in Los Angeles and New York, earning Titanique a 2019 BroadwayWorld Cabaret Award. Amid the pandemic, Titanique brought Dion's music to living rooms nationwide with Titanique: The Maiden Voyage Concert, streamed live from New Yorks' Le Poisson Rouge lounge. The 2022 run marks the first fully staged production of Titanique in New York and the world.

The 1997 Titanic film made stars of Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who played the roles of the doomed lovers Jack and Rose. The movie's 11 Oscars included Best Picture and Best Director, and it was the first film to gross over $1 billion at the box office.

Our review

Titanique

The new Off-Broadway musical Titanique has a cast and creative team of Broadway vets. But they, led by director/co-writer Tye Blue, also share a background doing pop parody musicals and dinner theatre in LA. This is the cozy, campy world from which Titanique hails, and it's now docked here on the East Coast through September. Don't go expecting a piece of high art or a faithful recreation of the James Cameron film it's based on, but do expect a titanic amount of pure joy. You'll get that vibe...
