Jordin Sparks was born on December 22, 1989 in Phoenix, Arizona. She is a multi-platinum recording artist and Grammy Award nominee who won American Idol in 2007.

As a child, Sparks lived in Ridgewood, New Jersey while her father was playing football for the New York Giants. Back in Phoenix, she would attend Northwest Community Christian School and Sandra Day O'Connor High School. She was also home-schooled by her grandmother, who acted as her manager, while Sparks concentrated on building a singing career.

She competed in many talent shows across the country, including America's Most Talented Kid on NBC, and would finally rise to fame in 2007 after winning the sixth season of Fox's American Idol and becoming the youngest winner in the show's history. Her eponymous debut album hit the #10 spot on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, reaching platinum status and selling over a million copies in the United States alone. Her highest-ranking single was "No Air," a duet with Chris Brown, which reached #3 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and also earned a Grammy Award nomination in 2008, alongside a plethora of other accolades. She has released two further studio albums: 2009's Battlefield and 2015's Right Here Right Now.

Sparks made her Broadway debut on August 19, 2010, assuming the role of Nina Rosario in Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical In the Heights at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, and would remain with the production through November 14, 2010.

She made her feature film debut in the titular role of 2012's Sparkle, starring alongside the late Whitney Houston, and has since appeared in The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete and Dear Secret Santa in 2013, Left Behind in 2014, The Grace of Jake in 2017, and God Bless the Broken Road in 2018. She also appeared on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on CBS in 2013 and voiced the role of Daisy in 2018's Show Dogs.

Sparks returned to Broadway to assume the leading role of Jenna in the hit musical Waitress at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre from September 16 through November 24, 2019.
