Ahead of The Prom arriving on Netflix later this year, the first trailer has been released. The movie adaptation, which was seen on Broadway last year, will be available to watch on Dec. 11, 2020, with a star-studded cast in the leading roles.

Casting includes Jo Ellen Pellman, who makes her film debut as Emma Nolan, a young woman in Indiana who is refused by her school to attend the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa. Helping her cause are a foursome of New York actors who are looking to give their career a lift through their celebrity activism.

Meryl Streep plays Dee Dee Allen, alongside James Corden as Barry Glickman, Andrew Rannells as Trent Oliver and Nicole Kidman as Angie Dickinson. Ariana DeBose plays Emma's girlfriend, Alyssa Greene, with casting including Keegan-Michael Key as Mr. Hawkins, Kerry Washington as Mrs. Greene and Kevin Chamberlin as Sheldon Saperstein.

The Prom is directed by Ryan Murphy, whose recent directorial credits include the film adaptation of The Boys in the Band, starring the entire cast of the 2018 Broadway revival. The upcoming movie includes the original book by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin, as well as the entire soundtrack by Matthew Sklar and Begeulin.

After a world premiere in Atlanta, The Prom made its Broadway premiere at the Longacre Theatre for 10 months. The musical played its final performance on Aug. 11, 2019, and was nominated for six Tony Awards.
