Could Broadway theaters be used as vaccination centers?

The Broadway League have offered their venues to help in the fight against Coronavirus.

With the vaccine rollout in full swing across the country, could Broadway theaters be the next step in the quest for normality? As reported by Broadway News, The Broadway League is the latest in a list of live events organizations to give up their venues for vaccination efforts.

In a letter to President Joe Biden, the Broadway League said: "While we have been effectively shuttered by the pandemic, we have vast resources that, if fully utilized, could provide invaluable mechanisms in our country's vaccine distribution. In fact because we are shuttered, we are able to offer the full weight of our industry to support vaccine distribution beginning immediately."

So far, Yankee Stadium and Citi Field have been designated as vaccination centers for New York residents. Plans are currently on hold until New York state receives a greater amount of vaccines, so that all sites can be used to their full potential.

News of theaters being used as vaccination centers marks a potential light at the end of the tunnel, with Broadway theaters having been shut since mid-March 2020.

Currently, Broadway shows are suspended until May 31, 2021 at the earliest. Plans for a 2021 return to Broadway are still in place, with shows including MJ The Musical and The Music Man all projecting fall 2021 dates.
