Coal Country extends limited run at the Public Theater

The world premiere of Coal Country will now run through April 5, 2020.

Ahead of tonight's official opening of the world premiere of Coal Country, the Public Theater has announced a 1-week extension. Coal Country began previews at the Public's Anspacher Theater on February 18, 2020 and will now run through April 5, 2020 (instead of March 29).

Coal Country is written by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, with original music by Steve Earle, and directed by Ms. Blank.

Synopsis: "In 2010, the Upper Big Branch mine explosion killed 29 men, and tore a hole in the lives of countless others. In this riveting, emotionally stunning new work based on first-person accounts by survivors and family members, Coal Country digs deep into the lives and loss of the most deadly mining disaster in recent U.S. history. This haunting world premiere gives voice to those yet unheard and shines a piercing light on the deadly forces of greed and the enduring power of love."

The previously announced cast of Coal Country includes Mary Bacon (as Patti), Amelia Campbell (as Mindy), Michael Gaston (as Stanley "Goose"), Ezra Knight (as Roosevelt), Thomas Kopache (as Gary), Michael Laurence (as Tommy), Deirdre Madigan (as Judy), and Melinda Tanner (as Judge).

The creative team features scenic design is by Richard Hoover, costume design by Jessica Jahn, lighting design by David Lander, and sound design by Darron L West.

Coal Country is a part of the Public Theater's 2019-2020 Off-Broadway season, which also includes the upcoming productions of The Vagrant TrilogyThe Visitorand Cullud Wattah.
