Broadway revival of Titanic eyeing the 2019-2020 season

Will Titanic sail again?

According to an Equity casting notice, a Broadway revival of Titanic is looking to open on the Great White Way during the 2019-2020 season, with Broadway veteran Eric Schaeffer at the helm.

Mr. Schaeffer is no stranger to the musical, having mounted a South Korean production with OD Company at the Charlotte Theatre in Seoul last year, as well as a celebrated 2016 revival at Virginia's Signature Theatre, where he is resident as Artistic Director.

The Seoul production features a stunning and immersive design concept by Paul Tate De Poo III and it is presumed that this same scenic design would be revived in New York.

The original Broadway premiere of Titanic began performances on March 29, 1997, officially opened on April 23 and ran through to March 21, 1999 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, picking up a total of five Tony Awards including "Best Musical". The musical features a Tony Award-winning book by Peter Stone and a Tony Award-winning score by Maury Yeston.

Titanic charts the tragic events of April 15, 1912, as the "unsinkable" ocean liner RMS Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean, following a collision with an iceberg during its maiden voyage.
