As Is, by William M Hoffman, at Theatre Row

Apple Core Theater Company's fall production prsents William M. Hoffman's, As Is, one of the first plays to tackle the AIDS crisis in America, opens at Theatre Row's Studio on 15 Oct 2010, following previews from 14 Oct and runs through to 31 Oct 2010.

One of the first plays of its kind, As Is was written at the height of the AIDS crisis in 1985. Centering on the relationship between an HIV-positive man and his ex-lover who returns to his side in his time of need, As Is portrays the confusion and fear that gripped the nation as the disease first spread.

As Is won the 1986 OBIE Award for Distinguished Playwriting, The Drama Desk Award for Best Production of a Play and was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play and the Pulitzer Prize. John Simon, writing for New York Magazine exclaimed, "What makes [As Is] particularly persuasive is that the feelings are not merely juxtaposed or superimposed, but actually blended in a complete musical harmony."

Directed by Walter J. Hoffman (no relation to the playwright), As Is features Jeff Auer, Emily King Brown, Jason Griffith, Brian Hopson, Jessica Luck, Todd Michael, Ryan Stadler and David Zwiers.
