Yellow Face extends a second time, now playing through to 13 Jan 2008

The world premiere of David Henry Hwang's Yellow Face, has extended its run for a second time, this time by two weeks..

Yellow Face opened at the Public's Martinson Hall on 10 Dec 2007, following previews from 19 Nov 2007, for a run that was originally scheduled to end on 23 Dec 2007, and then was extended until the 30 Dec 2007, before its present extension through to 13 Jan 2008.

The show opened to mixed reviews: "Feels less like a fully developed work than a scattershot, personal venting of painful emotions." (New York Times); "Reveals an unequivocally insightful writer." (New York Daily News); "A morass of real and invented plot elements that never quite jibe" (New York Post);"Smart and delightful and scary new quasi-mock-autobiographical docudrama." (NewsDay); "A welcome jolt of satire to the holiday season." (Bloomberg); "The play is too metatheatrical for its own good." (AM New York).

In Yellow Face, playwright David Henry Hwang puts himself center stage with alter-ego DHH, telling his side of the explosive controversy stirred up when he led the protest against the hiring of Jonathan Pryce in the original Broadway production of Miss Saigon.

Davids work has always been about crossing boundaries from China to America, from male to female, from Confucianism to Christianity, said Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis. In Yellow Face, Davids sly wit and sharp insight is turned on the boundaries of self his own life and questions of truth, fiction and racial identity."

Directed by Leigh Silverman, Yellow Face features Noah Bean, Francis Jue, Julienne Hanzelka Kim, Kathryn Layng, Hoon Lee, Lucas Caleb Rooney and Anthony Torn.

The creative team features David Korins (set), Myung Hee Cho (costumes), Donald Holder (lighting) and Darron West (sound).

Yellow Face was developed in collaboration with the Stanford Institute for Creativity in the Arts, Stanford University and The Lark Play Development Center.
