Who is nominated for multiple Tony Awards in 2025?

To be up for Broadway's highest honor once is a thrill — but for an individual to be nominated more than once in the same year is a uniquely special achievement.

The 2025 Tony Award nominees have been announced, and now, the whole Broadway community waits with bated breath to see who will take home the top prizes for Best Musical, Best Play, Best Actor and Actress, and more. But some artists have that anticipation doubled and even tripled, having been nominated for multiple awards.

Will Aronson leads the pack as the only triple nominee this season, having co-written the book and score and doing orchestrations for Maybe Happy Ending and being recognized for all those efforts. His co-writer, Hue Park, therefore also has two nods, as do the four writers of fellow Best Musical nominee Operation Mincemeat: David Cumming, Felix Hagan, Natasha Hodgson, and Zoë Roberts.

Like those writers, many of the multi-nominees are also multi-hyphenates, being recognized for doing more than one job on the same show. Perhaps the most well-known example is Cole Escola, who became a breakout star for writing and starring in the historical comedy play Oh, Mary! Now, they're up for Best Play and Best Actor in a Play. Similarly, Darren Criss is up for Best Actor in a Musical for Maybe Happy Ending, and he's also eligible for Best Musical as a producer of the show. Both he and Escola are not only double nominees, but first-time ones.

More often, though, it's the people fully behind the scenes who get multiple nominations in a season, like Death Becomes Her director and choreographer Christopher Gattelli. On the design side Marg Horwell and Rob Howell got nominated for both their scenic and costume designs for the Sarah Snook-led The Picture of Dorian Gray and Best Play nominee The Hills of California, respectively.

The remaining multi-nominees are wide-ranging experts in specific fields, like Peter Hylenski (nominated against himself for his sound design for 2 musicals) and Derek McLane (same deal, but with scenic design).

Check out a list of all the 2025 multi-Tony Award nominees below — their wide-ranging talents deserve extra celebration. Be sure to get tickets to see their work in action!
