Translations: MTC announces full cast
The Manhattan Theatre Club have announced the full cast for their production of Translations, by Brian Friel, opening at the Biltmore Theatre on 25 Jan 2007, following previews from 4 Jan and running through to 1 Apr 2007.
The cast, directed by Garry Hynes, will feature Niall Buggy, David Costabile, Alan Cox, Dermot Crowley, Michael FitzGerald, Morgan Hallett, Geraldine Hughes, Susan Lynch, Graeme Malcolm, and Chandler Williams.
Translations: Set in Donegal in 1833, the play tells the story of a small community on the brink of irrevocable change. Most of the action takes place in the home of learned but doddery Hedge School master Hugh O�Donnell, where, in accordance with British law, Catholic pupils are taught classics and mathematics.
Set and costume design by Francis O�Connor, with lighting by Davy Cunningham and sound by John Leonard.
MTC performed the American premiere of Friel's Translations in 1981 (Off-Broadway). The show had a previous Broadway outing in 1995 when it played at the Plymouth Theatre (Now known as the Schoenfeld Theatre).
This is the second Broadway play in MTC's current season. It's first production Losing Louie is currnetly playing at the Biltmore. Originally the MTC's second Broadway show of the season was going to be Clifford Odets' The Country Girl, but this was prosponed until the next season.
