The Irish…and How They Got That Way, by Frank McCourt, at the Irish Rep
The Irish Repertory Theatre presents a special engagement of their 1997 production of Frank McCourt's The Irish...and How They Got That Way, starring original cast members Ciaran Sheehan and Terry Donnelly, once again directed by Charlotte Moore.
The production is being staged to honor the one-year anniversary of the passing of playwright Frank McCourt ("Angela's Ashes"), who died on 19 Jul 2009.
The Irish...and How They Got That Way will open at the Irish Repertory Theatre on 22 Jul 2010, following previews from 14 Jul and will run through to 5 Sep 2010.
The Irish...and How They Got That Way is an irreverent but affectionate history of the Irish in America that mingles laughter and sentiment in a tapestry of classical songs and stories.
Joining original cast members Ciaran Sheehan and Terry Donnelly are Kerry Conte, Patrick Shields, Gary Troy and Kevin B. Winebold.
The production will feature choreography by Barry McNabb, set design by Shawn Lewis, costume design by David Toser and lighting design by Michael Gottlieb.
Frank McCourt (19 Aug 1930 19 July 2009) was an Irish-American teacher and writer, best known for "Angela's Ashes," his 1996 Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir about his childhood in Brooklyn and Limerick, Ireland. In addition to the Pulitzer Prize, "Angela's Ashes" won the National Book Critics Circle Award and Boeke Prize, and subsequently was made into a major motion picture, directed by Alan Parker. His other memoirs include "'Tis" (1999), which chronicled his life in America as a new immigrant; and "Teacher Man," (2005) about his experiences as a public-school teacher.
