The Homecoming plays final performance on Broadway

The 40th anniversary revival pf Harold Pinter's The Homecoming will play its final performance at Broadway's Cort Theatre on 13 Apr 2008. When the play closes it will have played 15 previews and 138 regular performances.

The first preview of The Homecoming, which was originally scheduled to be on 23 Nov 2007, was delayed until the 4 Dec due to the strike on Broadway late last year. The revival officially opened at the Cort Theatre on 16 Dec 2007.

The play opened to mostly good reviews: "Every bit as big as its reputation." (New York Times); "Casts a strange spell that grips you tight." (New York Daily News); "A fascinating and entertaining piece" (New York Post); "A riveting ensemble, their vileness inching under the skin in ways as psychologically disturbing as they are theatrically bracing." (Variety).

Despite the reviews, the revival struggled at the box office, with most performances playing to less then 50% house capacity.

Directed by Daniel Sullivan, The Homecoming features Ian McShane (Max), Ral Esparza (Lenny), Michael McKean (Sam), Eve Best (Ruth), Gareth Saxe (Joey) and James Frain (Teddy).

The Homecoming tells the story of the ultimate dysfunctional family, presided over by its patriarch Max. Living under his dilapidated roof are his younger brother Sam, and two of his sons: Lenny, the town pimp, and Joey, a boxer-in-training. Tensions begin to flair with the arrival of Max's eldest son Teddy, who returns home after six years with his new wife Ruth.

Seduction, betrayal, and divisiveness ensue, as the family welcomes The Homecoming of its estranged brother and vies for the attention of his dangerously alluring wife.

The play's creative team comprises Eugene Lee (sets), Jess Goldstein (costumes), Kenneth Posner (lighting) and John Gromada (sound).

The The Homecoming was produced on Broadway by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, Harold Thau,Ronald Frankel, Barbara Freitag, Herb Goldsmith and Terry E. Schnuck.
