TACT announces its 2016-2017 season at Theatre Row
TACT (The Actors Company Theatre) has announced the two productions of its upcoming 2016-2017 off-Broadway season at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre.
Artistic Director Scott Alan Evans released the following statement:
"Our new season is full of daring dynamic contrasts. This fall we are bringing a fresh new take to a classic 18th century comedy, the hilarious She Stoops to Conquer - we think we're all going to need a good laugh right about then - and then a contemporary glance at a time gone by with the world premiere of Jeff Talbott's beautiful new play The Gravedigger's Lullaby in the spring. Light and dark/old and new/classic and contemporary: we'll be showing the full range of TACT's reach."The company's revival of Oliver Goldsmith's She Stoops to Conquer, directed by Scott Alan Evans, will begin previews on 4 October 2016, before an official opening on 16 October, and a limited engagement through to 5 November 2016.
Synopsis: "This classic 18th century British comedy, in which a mismatched love comes to rights when a strong young woman lowers the stakes, combines heightened language, great heart, and timeless humor. TACT's production will take a fresh streamlined look at this enduring play and will feature some daring audience participation."
The cast of She Stoops to Conquer includes Simon Jones, Cynthia Darlow, Mary Bacon, Jeremy Beck, MacKenzie Meehan, James Prendergast and Richard Thieriot.
The creative team features scenic design by Brett Banakis, lighting design by Mary Louise Geiger, and costume design by Tracy Christiansen.
TACT's world premiere staging of Jeff Talbott's The Gravedigger's Lullaby, directed by Jenn Thompson, will play a limited engagement from 28 February through to 1 April 2017, with an official opening set for 12 March.
Synopsis: "The play tells the powerful, simple tale of Baylen, a hardworking gravedigger fighting to feed his family in a world that threatens to bury him." Cast and creative team for this production will be announced at a later date.
