Red, Grandage to direct Logan's play on Broadway

London's Donmar Warehouse world premiere of John Logan's Red, directed by Donmar's artistic director Michael Grandage, is planning a Broadway bow that may arrive as early as Spring of 2010.

Red: under the watchful gaze of his young assistant and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Mark Rothko takes on his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting.

The London production stars Alfred Molina as 'Mark Rothko' and Eddie Redmayne as 'Ken.' Molina, who has received critical acclaim for his performance, is rumored to be transferring to Broadway with the production.

English actor Molina has received two nominations for his work on Broadway. The first was for his portrayal of 'Yvan' in Art, and the second for his role as 'Tevye' in the 2004 revival of Fiddler on the Roof.

Previous Donmar Warehouse productions helmed by Michael Grandage have been well received on Broadway: Frost/Nixon; Mary Stuart; The Philanthropist; and the recent production of Hamlet starring Jude Law.

Shubert Chairman, Philip J. Smith, told the New YOrk Times that Red will play at the John Golden and that he is confident it will arrive in the Spring.

Jon Logan's previous plays include: The View From Golgotha; Speaking in Tongues; Showbiz; Scorched Earth; Riverview: A Melodrama With Music; Never The Sinner; Music From a Locked Room; The Illusion.
