‘Real Women Have Curves’ sets Broadway closing date
The two-time Tony Award-nominated musical at the James Earl Jones Theatre is adapted from Josefina López’s 1990 coming-of-age play and the 2002 HBO film version.
Real Women Have Curves will close on Broadway, playing its final performance on June 29 at the James Earl Jones Theatre. At the time of closing, the musical will have played 84 total performances.
Adapted from Josefina López’s 1990 play and the 2002 HBO film starring America Ferrera, the coming-of-age story Real Women Have Curves follows 18-year-old Ana as she makes plans to go to college for journalism at Columbia University in NYC. However, her family wants her to stay back and build a career at their dress factory in L.A., forcing Ana to choose whose dreams she wants to pursue.
Starring Broadway-debut actress Tatianna Córdoba as Ana and 2025 Tony Award nominee Justina Machado as her mother, Carmen, the musical also features Florencia Cuenca as Estela, Shelby Acosta as Prima Flaca, Carla Jimenez as Pancha, Aline Mayagoitia as Itzel, Mason Reeves as Henry, Jennifer Sánchez as Rosalí, Sandra Valls as Prima Fulvia, and Mauricio Mendoza as Raúl.
Joy Huerta and Benjamin Velez wrote Real Women Have Curves’s Tony-nominated score, while Lisa Loomer and Nell Benjamin adapted López’s script into the musical’s book. Sergio Trujillo directs and choreographs.
