Promises, Promises: Broadway revival to star Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth


Sean Hayes and Kristin Chenoweth are to star in the first Broadway revival of Promises, Promises, book By Neil Simon, music by Burt Bacharach and lyrics by Hal David, which is to open at the Broadway Theatre on 25 Apr 2010, following previews from 28 Mar.

Emmy Award winner Sean Hayes will make his Broadway debut starring in the role of 'Chuck Baxter' opposite Tony and Emmy Award winner Kristin Chenoweth, returning to Broadway as 'Fran Kubelik.'

The musical will be choreographed by Tony Award winning choreographer Rob Ashford, who will also make his Broadway directorial debut with the show.

Further casting and creative team members will be announced in the near future.

Promises, Promises tells the story of the Consolidated Life Insurance Company and Chuck Baxter, one of its charming young employees. In an effort to advance at the company, Chuck lends executives his apartment for their extramarital romantic trysts. But things become slightly complicated when Fran Kubelik, the object of Chuck's affection, becomes the mistress of one of his executives.

The score to Promises, Promises contains the 1969 Grammy award winning song "I'll Never Fall in Love Again."

The original production of Promises, Promises debuted on Broadway in 1968 at the Shubert Theatre and ran for 1,268 performances through 1 Jan 1972. The production was nominated for eight Tony awards, winning for Best Actor in a Musical (Jerry Orbach) and Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Marian Mercer). The original cast recording was honored with a Grammy Award in 1969.

Sean Hayes (Chuck Baxter) made his New York stage debut in 'Damn Yankees' at City Center Encores. His films include 'The Bucket List,' 'Pieces of April,' 'The Cat in the Hat' (as the voice of the Fish), 'Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss,' and 'Cats and Dogs' (as the voice of Mr. Tinkles). He has won four Screen Actors Guild Awards, a TV Guide Award and an American Comedy Award. Hayes won an Emmy (and was nominated six times) for his portrayal of 'Jack' on 'Will & Grace.' He starred as Jerry Lewis in the television movie "Martin & Lewis."

Kristin Chenoweth (Fran Kubelik) won a Tony Award for her role as 'Sally' in 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.' She played the original 'Glinda' in the Broadway musical Wicked for which she was nominated for a Tony Award. She last appeared on Broadway in the Roundabout's production of 'The Apple Tree.' Other Broadway credits include 'Funny Girl,' 'Epic Proportions,' and 'Steel Pier.' Film work includes 'Bewitched,' 'The Pink Panther,' 'Running With Scissors,' 'Four Christmases.' TV work includes 'Ugly Betty,' 'The West Wing,' 'Frasier,' and two seasons as 'Olive Snook' on the ABC dramedy 'Pushing Daisies' for which she won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy.

Rob Ashford's (Direction and Choreography)s Broadway credits include 'Cry-Baby' (Tony nomination), 'Curtains' (Tony nomination), 'The Wedding Singer' (Tony nomination), 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (2002 Tony Award, Best Choreography), and 'The Boys From Syracuse' (Roundabout). In London, the current production of' A Streetcar Named Desire' starring Rachel Weisz at the Donmar Warehouse, 'Parade' at the Donmar Warehouse (Olivier nominations for Direction and Choreography), 'Evita' (Olivier nomination), 'Guys and Dolls' (Olivier nomination), 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (Olivier nomination), 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum 'and 'Once in a Lifetime' (National Theatre). Ashford recently won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography for his work on the 81st Annual Academy Awards.
