Potomac Theatre Project's 28th Anniversary Season
The Potomac Theatre Project have announced their 28th anniversary season, which runs July 8 to August 10 in a limited 5-week Off-Broadway engagement at The Atlantic Stage 2.
The season includes the U.S. Premiere of Howard Barker's Gertrude: The Cry which will begin previews on 8 July 2014 and will open on 15 July 2014. This will be followed by David Edgar's Pentecost which begins previews on 9 July, with a 16 July opening and runs through August 10.
Gertrude: The Cry is Baker's response to Shakespeare's Hamlet. The cast includes Pamela J. Gray, Robert Emmet Lunney, Alex Draper, David Barlow, Kathryn Kates, Meghan Leathers, Bill Army, Joelle Mendoza Etchart, Aashna Aggarwal, and Jake Schwartzwald .
This entirely new story exposes the sexual nature of the crime at the heart of Shakespeare's play. Poetic language, ideas and dark humor build a compelling and erotic study of the sexuality and secrecy that seethe below the surface of Shakespeare's popular tragedy. The production is directed by Richard Roagnoli, and includes includes Mark Evancho (Set Design), Hallie Zieselman (Lighting Design), Danielle Nieves (Costume Design) and Cormac Bluestone (Sound Design).
Pentecost is set in an abandoned church in an Eastern European country. A 13th century fresco has just been unearthed. If it proves to predate the works of Giotto, it could explode accepted notions about European art. Without warning, a group of armed refugees barricade themselves inside the church with the art historians, leading to a shocking and visceral conclusion.
The cast includes Alex Draper, Tosca Giustini, Jonathan Tindle, Matthew Ball, Lily Balsen, Martina Bonolis, Christo Grabowski, Larry Nathanson, Nina Silver, Lilli Stein, Joseph Varca, Tom Beyer, Aubrey Dube, Caitlin Rose Duffy, Erica Furgiuele, Nicholas Hemerling, Rishabh Kashyap, Chelsea Melone, Jake Schwartzwald and Mari Vial-Golden.
The creative team includes Mark Evancho (Set Design), Hallie Zieselman (Lighting Design), Adrienne Carlile (Costume Design based on original design by Jule Emerson) and Aubrey Dube (Sound Design), with direction by Cheryl Faraone.
Both productions play in repertory at the Atlantic Stage 2.
